Description

Lunar eclipse shot at 11:41PM January 20th 2019. After seeing social media reports the following day about a potential meteor strike during the eclipse I checked my  captures and found  a candidate. Searching through YouTube I found a replay of the live broadcast the night before from Lick Observatory. Scrubbing through the video I saw the moment of impact, which lasted for a fraction of a second. Capturing a screenshot from their video and overlaying it on top of my photo, confirmed the white dot was indeed the meteor impact in question. Capturing 2 second exposures about 6 times per minute for the duration of totality led me to an estimate of about a 20% chance of having captured the strike. Some nights its better to be lucky than good.
