Description

First light with the TS Photoline 106 and the iOptron HEM44

First light on a new location at -10°C is always a fun experience (check my previous post).

I'm pretty happy with the scope and the mount so far. I didn't do any backfocus or tilt adjustments and the guiding was at half my pixel scale on average despite weird calibration. There's definitely a lot more potential but I'm really happy it worked so well right out of the box.

The comet shows the leftovers of a disconnection event in the tail.

(Astrobin's image compression hit me really hard here. I've uploaded several revisions as jpeg, png and tiff in different sizes but I can't get rid of those compression artefacts. If you have any tips on how to avoid it, please let me know! It looks fine in the full resolution view and mobile view.)
