I decided to give the Pleiades a second try after refining my gear set up for the RASA 8. When I first shot it in August I had completed it without any IR/Cut filter and it had some less than ideal results. Also, I finally have been able to get my whole sensor plane without tilt and the stars are for the most part well focused from edge to edge. Definitely not the case with my first attempt.

This time I also tried to leave more of the dusty surrounding gas around the main stars. I feel that it give image more dimension and character.

The RASA is still such a fun tool to use. To be able to capture depth of images like this with a 2 minute exposure and only 40 subs.

This was my second night out using the ASI AIR Pro capturing and adjusting from the warm confines of my house. I had some off and on issue with PHD2, but other than guiding the capture experience with the ASI AIR was great.

M 45 Pleiades open cluster. This Collection of young, large, fast burning stars, is easily visible in the night sky unaided. The young stars area surrounded interstellar dust and debris that is reflecting their light as seen by the swirling reflection nebula.

The cluster is approximately 440 light years from earth and measures 8 light years across its core cluster of stars.

The cluster is reference 3 times in the Bible and also is the symbol and word in Japanese for Subaru.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
