Description

M27 is a planetary nebula about 1200 light years from earth and can be found in the constellation Vulpecula.  Planetary nebulae are formed when a dying star ejects its outer layers leaving a central white dwarf star at its core.  The Dumbbell is the brightest planetary nebula visible in the northern sky and is one of my favorite telescopic objects.
