Description

In the absence of true astronomical darkness and short nights it's nice to have some data to process. Here is M101 a bright large galaxy almost overhead in the spring which I haven't paid much attention to in the past few years. Taken over three nights in April with about an hours worth of Ha data.

M101 is part of the local group of galaxies some 21 million light years away in Ursa Major, known for its many star forming regions which show up bright red in Ha and can be seen in many locations in the spiral arms.

While processing a big galaxy like this it crosses my mind how many civilisations may be looking back at us, an incredible thought.
