Description

The springtime favourite "Triplet in the constellation of Leo" shows the three galaxies NGC 3628, M65 and M66.

Note the faint tidal tail that stretches out of NGC 3628 for a distance of approximately 300,000 light-years. This tail contains young bluish star clusters and star-forming regions and originated from past interactions of the three galaxies.

Stack of 83 exposures of 600 seconds each.
Taken in March 2022 in rural Upper Austria with a QHY600C, and a Skywatcher Esprit 100/550 telescope. Tracking with EQ6-R, Autoguiding with MGEN-3. Processed with Astro Pixel Processor, Pixinsight, Xterminator-tools and Photoshop.
