Description

The Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is located 2.5 million light years from our own Milky Way Galaxy. M31 is the closest large spiral galaxy to our own and easily visible with the naked-eye even in moderately light polluted skies. It's approximately 220,000 ly across and is estimated to contain one trillion stars. M31 and the Milky Way are expected to collide in about 4 billion years. This is also around the time the Sun is expected to be well within it's death throes.
