Description

My Celestron AVX mount died on me last week, but I wasn't going to miss out on the clear, moonless skies we had this week. I saddled my Orion 80mm APO to my Evolution Alt-Az mount and took lots of short exposures!

Over the course of 3 evenings, 7/17, 7/18, and 7/20, I captured over 3 hours of data. The little Alt-Az mount performed admirably, netting me 319 usable subs for a total of 2 hours, 45 minutes. Given that I was able to convince my neighbors to FINALLY turn off their very bright exterior light, this was enough time for me to obtain a pleasing image of this deep sky highlight, even with my unmodified DSLR.

Clear skies!
