Description

M13 Globular Cluster, in Hercules, contains about 300,000 stars and is about 25,000 light-years from Earth. Its about 145 light years across, which translates into just over 23 arcmin - that's larger than my scope's FOV, so this image is of just the cluster core.

You'd think with that many bright targets, this should have been a simple image to capture. But my stars turned out chevron shaped (?), and I had to do a lot of messing about to try and make them somewhat round again. All that processing took quite a toll on the overall quality of the image.

Taken through a luminance filter and binned 1x1 at a camera temperature of -20C, the image is a composite of 10 - 5min exposures.

This is my first attempt to do all the processing, from creating calibration masters to conversion to final jpg file, in PixInsight.
