Description

NGC 7497 is a 60 million light-year distant spiral galaxy in the constellation Pegasus. The galaxy was discovered in 1784 by astronomer William Herschel with a 48 cm telescope. [Source: Wikipedia Germany].

........ the brighter stars lie within our own Milky Way galaxy. The faint but pervasive clouds of interstellar dust ride above our galactic plane and dimly reflect the Milky Way's combined starlight. Known as high latitude cirrus or integrated flux nebulae (IFN) they are associated with molecular clouds. In this case, the diffuse cloud cataloged as MBM 54, is less than a thousand light-years distant. Other galaxies beyond the Milky Way are visible through the IFNs, including the striking spiral galaxy NGC 7497. Seen almost edge-on near the lower center left, NGC 7497's own spiral arms and dust lanes echo the colors of the Milky Way's stars and dust. [Source: APOD Oct 13, 2012].

The image was captured with the Celestron CGE Pro mount and the venerable Meade 12"LX200 SCT, using my Atik 383L+ m CCD at F7.16 (2182mm FL). Astronomik's Lum, Red, Green and Blue broad band filters were used. Imaging subs were taken at 1x1 bin, -10C, and 10 minutes for all.

Image information -- 2017

Lum 600s: 65 subs (10.83 hr) on Nov 5th, Nov 17th, Nov 18th, Nov 19th and Nov 20th.

Red 600s: 13 subs (2.17 hr) on Nov 21st and Nov 22nd.

Green 600s: 12 subs (2.00 hr) on Nov 21st and Nov 22nd.

Blue 600s: 13 subs (2.17 hr) on Nov 22nd.

Processing was done with PixInsight, following (for the most part) kayronjm's tutorial of Feb. 24th. Lum filter was used for the Lum image. R, G and B were collected for the color mix. The detail and color came out nicely, although the image (especially the galaxy) is somewhat soft.

North is to the right (pretty sure), and this is a slight crop due to the misalignment accumulation from the different filters and times.
