Description

The Great Orion Nebula rendered in a blue and yellow palette.

This has been created from

16 x 20sec Luminance frames

16 x 120sec Ha (7nm) frames

16 x 120sec SII (6.5nm) frames

10 x 180sec OIII (6.5nm) frames

(About 1 hour 40 mins total exposure time.)

I stacked and integrated the frames in PixInsight and used a synthesised luminance channel made up of the entire set of frames.

A blend of the Ha and OIII data was used for the red channel; a blend of all three filters for the green; and the SII data for the blue channel. This palette results in a pleasing image with enhanced contrast between the various regions of the nebula.

The Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, M42, or NGC 1976) is a diffuse nebula situated in the Milky Way, south of Orion's Belt in the constellation of Orion.
