Description

A supernova near NGC2146, It was discovered by Koichi Itagaki on March 2nd, 2018. The host galaxy NGC 2146 is a barred spiral galaxy with a diameter of 80,000 light years. It lies at a distance of 70 million light years from Earth, in the constellation Camelopardalis. The prominent dust lanes of NGC 2146 are bent at an angle of 45°, as a result of interaction with the smaller galaxy NGC 2146a. NGC 2146 is a starburst galaxy, also a consequence of the interaction with NGC 2146a over the past 800 million years.
