Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a spiral galaxy located 300 million light years away in the constellation of Cetus at a declination of +4 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12.4 galaxy which spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a large diameter of 160,000 light years.

From our view perspective, the disk is inclined about 20 degrees from face-on.

This galaxy is disturbed and indeed there are several obvious visual candidates, such as the small galaxy at 4 o’clock .  There are also a number of star clouds in the lower left half of the outer disk, which could be galaxy remnants. Faint HII signal can be seen in several of these outer clouds.  Notice how the core is located well north of the center of the outer disk.
