This is the northwest edge of the Sagittarius star cloud, known as M24. The stars of the show in this image are the two dark nebula, Barnard 93 on the left (east) and Barnard 92 (CB125) on the right (west). You can also see little open cluster Collinder 469 at the very bottom left.

The original image is as viewed in SharpCap. The final image is the raw 16-bit live-stack data from SharpCap processed through GIMP to bring out the final nebula detail. You can see the brownish tint in the nebula, along with some "highlights" within each dark nebula. I thought is was also very interesting how lower density dust halos around the very dense nebula noticeably redden (more reddish-yellow here) the the stars that are behind the dusty veil. The stars that are white are foreground in front of the nebula.

Description: I noticed under better room lighting conditions that I hadn't color balanced this properly. There is no true dark sky in this image, but some stars weren't white that should have been. I think this new version is a bit of an improvement

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
