Description

I always have problems with imaging planets, particularly Mars this year, part because of the terrible seeing, and part because it is so low in the southern horizon.

September 4th was an exceptional day in that the seeing was pretty good so I stayed out for 6 hours to try to capture Mars before it gets too small.

Here is a composite showing Mars taken at 8:30PM with just the ASI120mc at the focal point of my EdgeHD11 (fl=2880 mm). Then at 11:26PM using a 2x Orion barlow (fl=5760 mm). Based on the color fringing I'm wondering if the cheap barlow is the problem (my Celestron 2.5x barlow produces a similar result).

Anyway, I did what I could. Until 2020 for the next opposition!
