Description

Nearby transits have been few are far between lately, so when I found one coming up within a mile of my house I jumped at the opportunity. Its not a bird, I promise! The Moon was about 25 degrees up at the time of the transit, so the ISS was unfortunately not flying over with solar panels on full display from my perspective.

This also served as the first successful test of my ASI1600MM-P + LRGB filters for monochrome planetary imaging. The Moon barely fit into my C8 at its native 2000mm f/10 but worked well enough for stacking.

Stacking:

Autostakkert!3 - stacked each filter exposure, output at .TIFF

PixInsight - Used FFTRegistration to register L/R/G/B images together

Processing:

R/G/B Color (Varying Exposure to match Histogram, 200 frames each) - PixInsight Linear Fit on the Red Channel, Channel combination to combine into color image. Photoshop processing included several passes of saturation increase and decreases using Luminance masks to control the bright areas. Heavy-handed noise reduction and blurring using color blending to reign in color noise and aberration.

Luminance (7.5ms Exposure, 300 frames) - Restoration Filter & Wavelets to Deconvolute and Sharpen image followed by MMT for noise reduction on darker regions (Mare). Some Histogram Transformation and Curves to increase contrast between Mare and lighter areas. Ported back to PixInsight for LRGB Combination using the R/G/B image

ISS Inclusion - Used PIPP to output frames containing ISS Pass, stacked these in Photoshop (after alignment) using Minimum blending to show each instance of the ISS. Blended this into the LRGB image in Photoshop using a mask
