Description

I was sorting through some old data and must have forgotten to publish this image of Markarian's Chain. I think it was more or less a test set of images for a newly acquired ASI533MC camera. Or maybe it was an image I failed to reload after the 'great void' event ;-)

Markarian’s Chain, a group of galaxies stretched out in a curved line, is in the constellation of Virgo and is a part of the Virgo Cluster of galaxies which itself contains about 2000 galaxies. The member galaxies of Markarian’s Chain are about 55 million light years away so the light we are seeing now left them just 10 million years after the extinction of the dinosaurs. The main galaxy in the bottom right of the image is M87 where the central supermassive black hole whose event horizon was directly imaged by the Event Horizon Telescope in 2019. The top two brightest galaxies are M84 and M86 which are also Messier objects.06 May 2021 - 100 x 120 sec images with ASI 533 MC one shot colour camera/Redcat 51 on an Ioptron Skyguider Pro. Stacked in APP and processed StarTools.
