Description

Last night I was trying to image the Bubble Nebula. The first image was good so I thought I might get an image. However the second image had a fairly large black spot near the middle of the image. At first I thought a bug splatted on my main objective which I've had happen before. I checked an I could see nothing obvious that would have caused the black spot. Twice last night I lightly cleaned every piece of glass in the image train and the camera . However nothing worked.

The black spot was still there on the images. This morning I very carefully cleaned the main objective of my scope with a lens cloth and lens cleaner. I don't normally ever touch my optics with anything and have found that a little dust on the optics of my refractors or reflectors doesn't really affect anything. However with this spot I felt I had no choice. I decided to take some test images of M25 tonight to see if the spot was still there. I could not see a spot in the test images so I continued imaging. The Moon was right next to M25 and my images were washed out and I could see no detail. I did a select and slew with my mount to M25. I normally look through an eye piece to see if the object is in the image and framed like I want it. However I was in a hurry tonight because this object was moving quickly to the West and would be in a tree line very quickly. I thought I might be able to get 10 or 12 images. As it turned out clouds moved in and ruined most of my images. I wound up with 4 useable images out of 15. And to make matters worse when I began processing the images I noticed that M25 was no where in the image. When I did the select and slew my mount did not put me on the target. I was fussing and cussing about M25 not being in the image when I finished processing the image and my wife happened to walk by the door. She came in and said what's wrong I think that is a pretty image. I explained that it wasn't an image of anything and definitely not what I was intending on imaging. However when I calmed down and looked at the image it kind of appealed to me and I really don't image the Milky Way very much so I decided to keep the image

and share the image.
