Description

IC 5146, the Cocoon Nebula, is a reflection/emission nebula illuminated by a cluster of 9.5 magnitude stars in the constellation Cygnus. It is located about 4,000 light years from Earth. A dark lane is formed by the dark nebula Barnard 168. The Cocoon Nebula is a stellar nursery undergoing active star formation.
