Description

The Beehive Cluster, M44, is an open cluster in the constellation Cancer. It lies 577 light years away from Earth, making it one of the closest open clusters. With dark skies, it appears as a nebulous object with the naked eye, and has been known for millennia. Its age and proper motion suggest it has a common origin with Hades, the large open cluster in the constellation Taurus.
