Description

NGC 2244 is an open cluster surrounded by nebulosity in the Monoceros constellation, around 5200 light years from earth.

I processed this image in the so called "Hubble Palette" colour scheme (named after a technique originally introduced on images by the Hubble space telescope). Very simply put, the aim is to highlight as much detail as possible by using contrasting colours assigned to the different filters that have been imaged through (think of it as combining red/green/blue to obtain a colour image but just assigning different colours instead). The downside (and the reason I almost never process images this way) is that you end up with a fairly "unnatural" look. However, in this case I do think it worked out fairly nicely.
