A rarely imaged area of Puppis featuring open clusters NGC 2451 and NGC 2477 with background nebulosity.
To the right of frame is NGC 2451 which is actually 2 open clusters (NGC 2451 A and B) that lie along the same line of sight. It's dominated by the bright yellow star
c Puppis which is a spectroscopic binary (where the only evidence of being a binary star comes from multiple sets of spectral lines separated due to the Doppler effect). The nebulosity in this region is sometimes faint but extends into the neighbouring constellations of Vela and Carina.
NGC 2477 to the left of frame is an open cluster which resembles a globular, but without a dense core. With a FOV similar to the moon and hundreds of resolved stars, this cluster make for great viewing through an eyepiece.
I originally attempted these clusters with an Esprit 80 refractor and 2600mc colour camera in early Feb. But upon noticing background nebulosity, I decided to revisit using an Esprit 120 with a 2600mm mono camera and filters. Assembled from a mosaic of 2 panels.
