Description

On the evening of 2-6-2022 I went after the Casper the Friendly Ghost Nebula for round three with the ASIAir setup.  This time I put the phone with the control display in a window that was only about 18 feet from the scope and had no difficulties with loss of connection.  I did have difficulties when a cable snagged during slewing, so I'm going to have the bundle the cables is some useful way.  I also had a heck of a time getting the scope synced to the sky.  I kept getting the message that sync had failed because the scope was pointed within 5 degrees of the NCP, which certainly not the case.  I was following the directions in one of the tutorials on line.  I went inside and checked out a couple of other tutorials and came to the conclusion that the second plate solve during polar alignment is all that was needed.  When it hit finish on the alignment routine, I hit GOTO m78 and the scope slewed directly there and centered up the target.  With a GOTO mount this is apparently all that you have to do.  Good to know.

I failed (so far) to pull out any variable stars or asteroids from the frames.  Processing the image was made more difficult than usual because about half of the subs were taken toward the western sky, which is quite light polluted for me.  But the final image turned out ok so I posted it.  I'm not sure how anyone sees Casper the Friendly Ghost in this nebula, but it does have a ghostly aspect.  I found out about halfway through the workflow that a satellite had passed through one of the frames and decided to just leave its trail in the final image rather than start over.
