Description

Admittedly, the North America Nebula is neither the most unique or challenging target, but it makes for a great test case when trying out new things, since it's relatively easy to achieve and compare results. I am still deciding on a decent lightweight travel setup, so this provided me with a good opportunity to give it a try.

Coincidentally, this was also my first target when I started astrophotography last year (https://www.astrobin.com/q0p51p/), and boy... what a difference a year makes.

Overall, the AZ-GTi provides decent results in EQ mode - as long as you keep your expectations in check. Given good balance and low payload you can achieve about 1" total RMS error. Very usable with a William Optics Redcat and the ZWO ASI2600MC Pro, given the lower pixel resolution. I initially mounted the EAF and ASIAir Pro on the scope as well, but that turned out to be a bit too much in terms of weight.

I may try this again with an OAG instead of the guide scope, and see if the weight savings allow me to get the EAF back on the scope.
