Description

Barred spiral galaxy M77 in the constellation Cetus was originally considered to be a typical spiral galaxy, but recent images in infrared show a prominent bar structure not seen in visible light. The galaxy also has a very faint halo of gas and dust, barely discernible in this image. M77 lies at a distance of 47 million light years.
