Description

This group of 5 galaxies - 3 spirals and 2 ellipticals - is located about 270 million light years away in the constellation of Bootes at a declination of +44 degrees.

IC 4566 is the largest galaxy in the image.  It is a magnitude 13.3 spiral galaxy which spans 1.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way like diameter of 120,000 light years. From our view perspective, the disk is inclined about halfway between face-on and edge-on.

IC 4564 and IC 4565 are smaller galaxies with more interesting, asymmetric disks.  Perhaps these two are close enough to be interacting with each other.

The 2 ellipticals look to be close together as well but neither looks disturbed to me.
