Description

This image captures an emission nebula, nicknamed the Tulip Nebula, located in the constellation of Cygnus at a declination of +35 degrees. I captured this object last month in a wider FOV. This attempt with the longer focal length C11 was to try to see more detail in the nebula.

Ultraviolet radiation from stars power the emission, specifically star HDE 227018, which is the bluish star located inside the bright white arc in the central nebula region. Also, note the two prominent dark nebulae, comprised of dust, emanating from the center of the tulip, one up and one to the right. This gorgeous nebula is about 6,000 light years away from Earth. It is 25 arc-minutes wide, close to the size of our full moon, which corresponds to about 50 light years in width.
