Description

The Virgo galaxy cluster "happy face" is shown with another pair of "eyes" in the form of the start of Markarian's chain. M86 is the largest of the two ellipicals (M84 being the other). Surrounding are several NGC and IC galaxies. Many more faint fuzzies are about the field. The heart of the Virgo cluster of galaxies is ~60 million light years distant, and contains well over a thousand galaxies.

In this image, several spirals are seen to have some structure within their cores. The giant ellipticals M86 and M84 benefit from the 4 hours of integration at f/2.2. Their extent includes multiple shells along with some evidence of gas/dust, likely from consumed dwarf galaxies.

This data was captured while visiting the TAAA CAC dark site in southern Arizona with my RASA11/CGX-L and ASI183mcPro.

Description: dropped the background a bit. This gives up a bit of intensity on M86, but hopefully not too much.
