Description

The image was captured using a TS Hypergraph 8" f3.2 telescope, a ZWO ASI 294MM Pro camera, and Antlia V Pro 3nm filters (SHO). It was mounted on a Skywatcher Eq6-r-Pro mount, using an OAG+QHY5L-M. The software used included Sequence Generator Pro, PHD2, Pixinsight, and Adobe Photoshop. The image is a binning 1x1 SHO composition. The exposure details are SHO (3x30x300s), totaling 7.5 hours of exposure.
In the constellation of Cepheus, we find an area with numerous structures of dark nebulae interspersed with a large emission nebula, highlighting the structure known as the Elephant's Trunk. This is an area dominated by a multiple star system with a magnitude of 5.7, with the main star being a blue giant of spectral type B. They are located within the open cluster Cr 439. The intense radiation emitted by the multiple stars ionizes a large region around it, causing the observed emissions in the SII-Ha-OIII wavelengths and, in contrast, revealing the abundance of dark nebulae in the area. Inside the Elephant's Trunk, a reflection nebula VdB 142, illuminated by a B-type star, can be observed. Crossing the center of the image, you can see the dark nebula Barnard 161 in black.
