Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a HII galaxy located 100 million light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +57 degrees. HII galaxies have large starburst activity, usually due to tidal interactions. They are small (dwarf) and very luminous.

Typical of a HII galaxy, this object is noticeably brighter and more pink than a typical galaxy. It spans 1.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 50,000 light years.

The galaxy structure here is interesting and hard to understand. It looks to me like this galaxy is in transition from a dwarf galaxy to a spiral galaxy.
