Description

The Eastern Veil Nebula is one component of the larger Cygnus Loop or Veil Nebula complex.  The Veil Nebula complex is a result of a massive star supernova that exploded some 10000-20000 years ago.  It is located some 2400 light years distant and is about 110 light years across.  The Eastern Veil's (also Caldwell 33 and IC 1340) brightest components are NGC 6992 which trails off to the south into NGC 6995.

I was never very interested in the Eastern Veil Nebula but decided to image it after completing the Western Veil area. It actually turned out to contain quite a few interesting features and nebula. I haven't used the HSO palette previously, but found it worked very well on the Veil Nebula.  Isolated Ha areas appear as a nice red.  I was also somewhat surprised to really pull out the red Ha ribbons along the Eastern Veil's "spine."

Taken over several nights:  July 4, 10-11, 14 and 20, 2022.
