Description

NGC6992 NGC6960 is part of the large Cygnus Loop, a super-nova remnant that covers about 3 degrees of the sky. The West Veil Nebula, NGC6960 would be located off the bottom of this image. Both nebulas show red and blue colors indicating the presence of Ha and OIII gases, respectively. They are believed to be about 1500 light-years from us, and about 90 light-years across. The remnant was formed when a star exploded into a super-nova about 8000 years ago. North is to the right.
