I took a look at my prior "dust free" version this morning with fresh eyes...

The Needle Galaxy minus Cosmic Dust

... and felt this could be done better with the quality of the data I collected over 10 days.

So here's a new version. More time spent up front with PI deconvolution – lower Global light (.01) and dark (0.0) values – and a deeper star and space mask.

Then MUCH less processing required after that. (-:

Sharpening was very subtle using PI MLT with .05 on layer 2 and .1 on layer 3. The data after more extensive deconvolution just looked too good to go any further.

Color calibration started with PI PCC. I then tweaked it a bit to remove some of the red "haze" but not all.

This final result is what I feel may be a more "natural" version with both "softer detail" and "softer color".

Description: Removed some green and denoised space a bit more.

Description: Based upon excellent comments received from Ara, Sergey and Arvind, I scaled back the deconvolution and sharpening. This includes increasing global light from 0.000 to 0.005, leaving out PI LHE, and leaving out a second application of MLT.

Description: Based upon comments received from John Hayes, I added additional denoise using PS Camera Raw and lowered levels.

Description: As per John's feedback, I upped the color saturation +15 on the galaxy using a luminance mask.
