Description

Since I am located 51° North, there is currently no true darkness – only astronomical twilight. I was not sure, if it is possible to shoot DSOs with usable quality under those conditions. I planned to use the summertime for optimizations and for example added a aperture mask directly onto the mirror to hide the diffraction effects caused by the clamps, used wooden planks as support for the tripod legs on the lawn to avoid sinking and so forth.

So this one was just a test shot, which is the reason why I only have total integration time of 1.25 hours. This was shot with a unmodified DSLR. So you can only see the brightest parts of H-alpha. With 5-10 hours in true darkness, it should be possible to make the fainter parts of H-alpha visible.
