Description

Eastern Veil Nebula - NGC 6992

First image with my new camera!

This is a part of the "Veil Nebula" (called the "Eastern Veil Nebula"), a huge structure of filaments of ionized gas and dust.

It is located around 2000 lightyears away from us and it is the remnant of a supernova explosion of a massive star (about 20 times more massive than our Sun). This star exploded around 7000 years ago, producing shock waves that heated (ionized) the gas. As the gas cools down over time, it emits the light that we see.

The blue color is emited by oxygen atoms, the red color by hydrogen and the green color by sulfur.

Equipment:

Telescope: Sky-Watcher Evostar ED80 Black Diamond

Camera: ZWO ASI294MC Pro

Mount: Celestron AVX

Dates: 23-24/07/2019

Total imaging time: 5 hours
