Description

The Snake Nebula (center right)

These dark winding lanes at the center right belong to the Snake Nebula (Barnard 72); a series of dark absorption clouds made up of interstellar dust grains which are composed predominantly of carbon, it absorbs visible starlight and re radiate much of it in the infrared. This absorption causes stars behind the clouds to be obscured from view, hence the appearance of starless voids on the sky.

The Scorpion Nebula (in my eyes)

At the center is a Scorpion (not officially, but I see it) made up of 3 dark nebulae; B261,B262,B75

Barnard's nebulae are interstellar dark clouds of obscuring gas and dust. Their shapes are visible because they lie in the foreground along the line of sight to rich star fields and glowing stellar nurseries near the plane of our Galaxy.

Processing challenges

This image was by far the hardest for me to process. Most of my attempts ended very dull and colorless. After many iterations using different LRGB methods i finally realized that the luminance frames were causing the problem and reducing the luminance in the LRGB composition to only 40% worked best.
