This shot was taken during a recent trip to the Los Angeles Astronomical Society’s (LAAS) Lockwood Valley ranch, around 100 miles north of the city. LAAS club members have access to concrete pads with outlets to power their gear. On clear, moonless Saturday nights, up to 50 observers and imagers congregate here under Bortle class 4 skies. When I lived in Los Angeles, this was my primary imaging location.
