On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, the big showdown of comet 12P/Pons-Brooks was at dusk.
The comet stood closely beneath the narrow crescent moon and close to the bright planet Jupiter. The planet Uranus was also in the picture.

I had chosen an observation location just before Seppenrade. the location was 102 m high and it was relatively dark in the observation direction.
I drove to the location three times to observe, on March 25th, 2024, on April 8th, 2024 and then on April 10th, 2024.
I was unlucky twice with the clouds, which meant the comet was almost invisible.

Wikipedia writes about it:
12P/Pons–Brooks is a periodic comet with an orbital period of 71 years.
It meets the classical definition of a Halley-type comet (i.e. 20-200 year orbital period) and is one of the brightest known periodic comets, with an absolute brightness of approximately 5 M at perihelion.
Comet Pons-Brooks was discovered in July 1812 by Jean-Louis Pons at the Marseille Observatory and then later rediscovered by William Robert Brooks in 1883.

April 10th, 2024. Surprisingly it was relatively clear that evening.

As dusk set in, a little more of the comet could be seen. The long exposure makes the ash-gray disk of the moon really shine.

am Mittwoch, 10.04.2024 war der große Showdown des Kometen 12P/Pons-Brooks in der Abenddämmerung.
Der Komet Stand eng unter der schmalen Mondsichel und in der nähe des hellen Planeten Jupiter. Auch der Planet Uranus war mit im Bildfeld.

Ich hatte mir einen Beobachtungsort kurz vor Seppenrade ausgewählt. der Standort hatte eine Höhe von 102 m und in Beobachtungsrichtung war es relativ dunkel.
Dreimal hatte ich den Standort zum Beobachten angefahren, am 25.03.2024, am 08.04.2024 und dann am 10.04.2024.
Zweimal hatte ich Pech mit den Wolken, der Komet war dadurch fast unsichtbar.

12P/Pons–Brooks ist ein periodischer Komet mit einer Umlaufzeit von 71 Jahren.
Er erfüllt die klassische Definition eines Kometen vom Halley-Typ (d. h. 20–200 Jahre Umlaufzeit) und ist mit einer absoluten Helligkeit von zirka 5 M bei Erreichen des Perihels einer der hellsten bekannten periodischen Kometen.

Mit einsetzender Dämmerung war vom Kometen schon etwas mehr zu sehen. Durch die lange Belichtung erstrahlt die aschgraue Scheibe des Mondes so richtig.

In der Dämmerung waren Jupiter und die schmale Mondsichel schnell gefunden.
