Description

Messier 8, more commonly known as the Lagoon Nebula, is a star forming region approximately 4-6,000 lightyears away. This deep sky object is classed as an emission nebula, meaning that the gas that forms this region glows in certain frequencies due to the presence of ionised gas.

This region is faintly visible to the naked eye under dark skies, and can be seen as a grey cloud surrounding a bright cluster of stars through binoculars.

This image showcases several hours worth of exposure time, and demonstrates a tempest of interaction between the ionised Hydrogen, Oxygen and Sulphur gases.
