Description

After weeks and weeks (25 days in all) of cloudy nights, we finally had some clear weather for the full moon on 5th July.

This was made extra special by the fact that my son has been waiting to take an image of the full moon for his "young astronomer" club. It was very enjoyable having him with me and helping with the setup and capture!

The mosaic image presented here is comprised of 7 different captures. I had intended it to be 9, supplementing the basic grid of 6 images down either side with another set down the middle, as I know I get some blurring near the edge of the sensor when in this configuration. However, clouds sprung into existence (as they often do on still, humid nights like that one) which brought the session to a premature end.

If you look carefully at the full size image, therefore, you'll pick up some areas where the image stitching is a little off.

Still, plenty of detail is on offer due to the good seeing conditions, so that full-size image is worth a look.

Saturation has been boosted a little to bring out some of the colour variations, hopefully without making things look too unnatural.

Thanks for looking!
