Description

M96 is a spiral galaxy in the Leo constellation, around 31 million light years from earth.

This is a so-called "double barred galaxy", which quite simply means that it has two distinguishable brighter regions at its center. Much of how and why these form (instead of just one larger region) independently is still a mystery.
