Description

THE TADPOLE NEBULA
- IC 410
- Deepsky 1665mm
- Constellation Auriga

IC 410, also known as Tadpole Nebula, is an emission nebula with an embedded open star cluster (NGC 1893) in the constellation Auriga (Fuhrmann) in the northern starry sky. The cloud of luminous gas has a diameter of more than 100 light-years and is formed by stellar winds and the radiation of the embedded open star cluster NGC 1893. This region is dominated by the bright star Aurigae.
The left part of the image shows the faint emission nebula IC 410. The two remarkable "inhabitants" of the cosmic pond of gas and dust, the tadpoles of IC 410, are clearly visible. The nebula itself surrounds NGC 1893, a young galactic star cluster. Formed only 4 million years ago in the interstellar cloud, the intensely hot, bright cluster stars excite the glowing gas. The tadpoles consist of denser, cooler gas and dust, are about 10 light years long and probably represent sites of ongoing star formation. Their heads are shaped by wind and radiation from the star cluster and are outlined by bright, ionized gas ridges, while their tails run away from the central region of the cluster.
