Description

It’s eerie looking form created by hydrogen gas being bombarded by violent UV radiation from the blue-giant variable star, Gamma Cassiopeiae, that unleashes 34,000 times more energy than our own Sun, IC 63, or the Ghost Nebula, is part of a much larger nebulous region that spans over 4 times as wide as the full Moon as seen from the Earth.

This image of the Ghost of Cassiopeia was captured with over 15 hours of imaging data in R, G, B and Hydrogen-Alpha, spread over two nights, using a Dreamscope 16” Newtonian Astrograph at a blazingly fast f/3.75, and an FLI CCD camera, that I am currently renting from the remote southern desert of Utah, to hopefully get around the unrelenting cloudy skies over Seattle.
