Description

Using a RASA 11 and a full frame asi6200mcP camera (hosting a little over a 2 x 3 degree FOV) I was able to animate the tail action of comet C/2023 H2 Lemmon for both nights of November 10th and November 11th.

The comet appears to reverse directions in the animation sequence.  This is in result from my attempts to match the direction of the comet as I had reoriented the camera angle, over the two nights,  to fit as much of the tail in the frames as possible.  This comet was moving quite speedily over the course of a minute or so  I  the mount tracked the comet.

Since the tail is so attenuated and the there appears to be rapid variation in the tail structure I used the brightest 20 minutes (on Novemeber11th) to stack and align the comet thereby capturing the tail at its best IMO.  The stacked image is at the end of the animation.

Notice the November 10th's animation (closest approach to the earth) the tail is more fan shaped and therefore more diffuse/less bright.
