Target Description:
A mixture of nebula types combine to create a stunning scene visible to most observers in both hemispheres. From our perspective, this object somewhat mimics LDN 43 (
https://astrob.in/jj50ed/0/) in juxtaposing an emission nebula largely concealed behind a dark nebula. That red-orange emission nebula marks a region of active star birth while other, probably also young stars, illuminate the blue reflection nebula. A faint red and blue background nebula provides the final artistic touch.
Processing Description:
The processing was routine, except for pulling some background color away from a slightly greenish tint. Maybe it's just my vision, but if the green channel is 85% or more of the intensity of the blue channel (and the red is way down), then I see an area as more green than blue. In those faint regions where this occurred, I pulled the green down until my brain said, "Aah, blue!"
