Description

The Elephant Trunk Nebula, also known as IC 1396A, is a stunning celestial structure located approximately 2,400 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Cepheus. This nebula is a region of ionized gas and dust, part of the larger emission nebula complex IC 1396. The composition of the Elephant Trunk Nebula is primarily hydrogen gas, with traces of other elements such as oxygen, sulfur, and nitrogen. The nebula is also home to dark globules of dense gas and dust, which are the building blocks of new stars, known as Bok globules. It is estimated that the nebula is around 100 light-years across, making it one of the largest star-forming regions in the Milky Way.

I captured this over 4 nights, from the Utah Desert Remote Observatory, and processed in SHO.
