Description

Another beautiful, but rarely-imaged likely planetary nebula - this time discovered by Austrian amateur astronomer Matthias Kronberger in 2005.
Embedded in a field of heavy Ha nebulosity it's difficult to separate the PN from the background. The intricate Ha structures contrast with the relatively featureless OIII nebulosity - which questions how much of the intricate structures really are attributable to the PN. However, such structures are only found in the location of the PN, and have a stronger signal than the rest of the field of view - which supports the possibility that they are within the PN itself. This is easier to see in the individual Ha and OIII images below. A clearly-identifiable small blue CSPN is located centrally within the PN - it is catalogued as Lan 21.  Kronberger 9 can be found buried in wide field images of NGC 6823 and Sh2-86.
