La nébuleuse de la Tulipe, (sh2-101 dans le catalogue Sharpless ou encore CED 173) est située à environ 6000 années-lumière et s'étale sur environ 10,8 années lumière. La nébuleuse est en fait un vaste amas d'hvdrogène ionisé sous l'effet d'une étoile bleue. Tout près de la nébuleuse, se trouve la célèbre étoile Cygnus X-1 qui a été très étudiée en tant que première candidate à titre de trou noir, qui a une source importante de rayons-X.

The Tulip Nebula, (sh2-101 in the Sharpless catalog or CED 173) is located about 6000 light-years away and spans about 10.8 light-years. The nebula is in fact a vast cluster of hydrogen ionized under the effect of a blue star. Very close to the nebula is the famous star Cygnus X-1 which has been much studied as an early black hole candidate, which has an important source of X-rays.
