Description

The Rosette Nebula is an active stellar nursery located 5200 light years away. The center of the nebula contains an open star cluster, NGC 2244 aka the Satellite Cluster, of hot young stars formed in the last 5 million years and are responsible for the the glow of the nebula. There’s a lot going on in this object including dark matter (Bok globules), Herbig-Haro objects (localized areas of nebulosity formed by newly formed stars), and dark filaments of dust towards the center formed by stellar winds.

This was taken over 3 nights (4.88 hrs)  in Bortle 8 skies using a QHY268c and L-ultimate filter on a recently acquired Pegasus Nyx-101 harmonic geared mount. Very pleased with its performance including excellent tracking (RMS 0.5-0.8) and 0 backlash.
