Description

IC 4603 is a nebula in the constellation Ophiuchus. The SIMBAD database classifies it as a bright nebula surrounding the bright star SAO 184376. The brightness of the star washes out the reflected color giving the nebula a nearly white appearance. Above, and extending out of the field of view, is the large reflection nebula IC 4604. The triple star, Rho Ophiuchi, illuminates this nebula. The bright stars illuminating IC 4603 and IC 4604 are about 400 to 440 light years from Earth.
